Clare Gilmartin

Clare is an Advisor at Active Partners where she works closely with our early-stage team on evaluating investment opportunities and advising our portfolio companies.

Born and raised in Dublin, Clare began her career at Unilever and Boston Consulting Group in London before joining eBay in 2003 during the early days of the Internet. Over ten years there she held several strategy and operations roles and was ultimately responsible for the UK and Greater Europe when the company was going through a period of rapid growth.

In 2013 Clare was approached by the Chairman of Trainline, who she’d worked with at eBay, to join as CEO. Spotting the huge potential of Trainline to revolutionise the customer experience through technology, Clare led the business through a period of major transformation, expansion, and growth. Under her leadership, the business transitioned from a UK-only platform to operating in 45 countries, offering tickets from over 270 rail and coach carriers to a global customer base. Clare led Trainline through its IPO on the LSE Main Market in June 2019.

With over 25 years of leadership experience building transformational businesses through innovation, Clare now advises and invests in exceptional founders building the next big thing. She sits on the board of GetYourGuide, a booking platform for unforgettable travel experiences, and Wise, an online currency exchange and payments service.
